The corollary of this story is that local women would not marry a newcomer to New Orleans unless he had endured a few years of Yellow Fever so that he was "acclimated" to the locale.

During the Covid pandemic, I fell down a giant rabbit hole with regard to NOLA and Yellow Fever -- there were plenty of similarities -- and it was so fascinating to see how the locals managed the epidemics, including the whole acclimated process and preference. Thanks for bringing that back to my mind, @David Shaw!
